Urban habitat: commonly found on roadsides, pavement openings, vacant lots, neglected ornamental landscapes, compacted soils, highway banks and medians; thrives in full sun.

Ecological function: disturbance-adapted colonizer of bare ground.

History: Although native to North America, Eragrostis pectinacea is often considered weedy due to its tendency to grow in disturbed areas. It is also found in parts of South America.
