Ecological function: provides shade and cooling in paved areas; tolerant of dry and hot conditions.
History: Cedrus atlantica is found on the White House South Lawn in Washington D.C. President Carter designed a self-supporting tree house which was built in one of the trees for his daughter Amy. In its native habitat, the tree’s heavy aromatic wood is often used for cabinetmaking.
